The results of an experimental investigation of the noise generated by the mi-8 and mi-4 passenger helicopters are presented. It is shwon that the use of a turboprop instead of a reciprocating engine for the helicopter powerplant permits a substantial reduction in the local noise. It is found that the noise practically independent of any change in the engine operating mode from takeoff to cruising as well as the flight speed.
