Not only does the automatic system self-test detect a malfunction in the avionics equipment aboard, but the technique proposed by ibm will switch the avionics gear to an alternate mode automatically. the checkout proceeds by finding a malfunction at the highest possible system-performance level, then working its way down until it isolates the fault to a line-replaceable unit.
