A theoretical and experimental investigation of a slotted metal radome cap is presented. the study was initiated to determine the feasability of using the metal cap in place of the existing rubber-rain-erosion boot used on the nose radome of commercial jet aircrafts. In addition to rain erosion, a metal cap will also protect the most vulnerable portion of the dielectric radome from hail and lightning.
