The various sources of interfernece and noise which can influence the design of satellite-borne receiving systems at frequencies lower than 50 mhz are reviewed. Natural and made radiation from the earth produce perturbations via non-linearities in the amplifiers. Noise of cosmic origin, at frequencies lower than 1 mhz, still unexplained, prevents the use of these frequencies for communications between spacecrafts.
