The reliability of data recorded in an industrial environment can be jeopardized by many influences. The one considered here is that which may be called loosely 'electrical interference'. Ways in which this interference can enter a measuring system, and precautions which can be taken to prevent its entry, are discussed. Some examples are quoted of problems encountered, and solutions applied, during investigations into the behaviour of railway components. References to some useful literature are also included.
