The Robotic Deriveter System, built for the U.S. Navy by Southwest Research Institute, has been delivered to North Island NARF, San Diego. The system includes a six-axis electric robot mounted on a mobile vehicle. The self-contained system can be manuvered to complete aircraft, in order to remove rivets for rework and repair. Machine vision and other perception methods allow adaptation to individual conditions on aircraft. This paper includes a description of the system and performance data obtained during tests at North Island.
