MAS is a high octane oxygenate, composed of methanol and higher alcohols, produced directly from synthesis gas according to a proprietary process studied and developed in the ENI Group. MAS produced in an industrial scale demonstrative plant has been blended with gasoline at 4.25 vol % maximum level, according to EEC regulations. The resulting premium gasoline is commercially distributed, under the trade name 'Super E' in 80 service stations of the AgipPetroli and IP network. This paper relates on handling procedures and customer acceptance of the product. In another paper of this Symposium the SnamProgetti, EniChem, Haldor Tops e MAS (Methanol plus Higher Alcohols) technology along with the performed research and development, which led to the successful implementation in August 1982 of the industrial scale demonstrative MAS plant at Pisticci - Southern Italy - (15000 MTPY) are presented.
