This paper addresses a project concerning the development and implementation of a computer aided factory design system at a major automobile manufacturers. The overall objective of this project was to provide a tool for production and facility planners that would result in significant improvements in cost, quality, efficiency, and schedule performance. The different phases of the project are described, outlining the methodical approach used, and focusing on user requirements, system design, and implementation and integration of the factory design.
