A finite element methode for calculating the deformed shapes of automobile body panels during the binder wrap stage has been discussed previously. The present paper describes an experimental verification of the method, a comparison of the finite element solutions with those obtained by the conventional geometric method in which the binder shape is fitted with a developable surface, and an extension of the method to cases where the binder surfaces are strongly non-developable.
