Fretting or reciprocal sliding can affect the performance of mechanical functions. Coatings and lubricants have been investigated to protect aerospace mechanisms from such wear and microweldings. From the 144 tests performed, TiC, Tiodize and Adhesoil coatings showed the best results under a high specific load; the best results were obtained with Rh + MoS2 coatings under low contact pressure against Be.
