The high speed propeller, called the Prop-Fan, has passed all of its model test goals and is proceeding into large size testing. Flight testing is scheduled in 1987. Future designers have many choices available, one of which is a tractor or a pusher propulsion system configuration. This paper compares the two propulsion systems from a weight, fuel consumption, cost, maintenance, and aircraft system evaluation. The paper also highlights the differences in technology readiness for the two systems.
