A small vehicle 'HORNET-500' which utilizes optical fiber cable is currently under development. The vehicle can be used for geological, biological surveys, and for inspection of submarine structures down to depths of 500 meter. A slender tether cable (7 mm in diameter) which consists of two optical fibers and a pair of electric power conducters. The cable was newly developed in order to receive high quality color TV signals, digital control signals and to reduce cable drag. The vehicle has two spherical aluminum hulls which are center jointed in an aluminum cylinder, and four thrusters (two attached on the center cylinder, and the others on both sides of the vehicle). Those spheres, front and after spheres, have detachable acrylic dome port respectively. A high quality color TV camera (broadcasting grade) and a low light level black and white TV camera are set on tilt mechanism in the front sphere.
