Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has been developing a gas turbine for truck use which has low noise, vibration and pollutant emissions, and which is competitive with diesel engines in regard to total cost including both initial cost and running cost. Through vehicle tests conducted, the performance of the prototype engine has been verified. In order to increase turbine inlet temperature, an air-cooled radial turbine was designed and tested and now ceramic turbine parts are being developed. This paper describes the design and development work on components, engine, vehicle and ceramic parts.
