A semianalytical finite element displacement formulation for the dynamic analysis of coupled axisymmetrical loading, involving a real compressible but invisicid fluid and an elastic structure is presented. The application of the constraint of irrotationality on fluid displacements in the form of penalty function eliminates most of the zero energy modes. Finally symmetric and banded equations of motion are solved for the free and forced response analyses of fluid and fluid-structures domain respectively. The effect of penalty stiffness coefficient on free vibrations is studied. A coupled system is studied for seismic response using modal method.
