A new concept of a fuel injection system for a marine diesel engine has been developed. The system including a micro computer controls the fuel injection in order to achieve an optimum fuel consumption. The system consists of a direct control system, an efficiency adjusting system and an efficiency map searching system hierarchically. The direct control system well regulates the fuel injection parameters without any said of a computer but with aids of mechanical parts and hydraulic ones. The other two systems search and keep an optimum point of operating conditions of the engine by setting parameters to the direct control system. The performance of the direct control system has been investigated experimentally, and this concept is discussed, to bring good performance, high reliability and low cost to a marine diesel engine.
