In order to secure the reliability of marine shafting, it is also very important to estimate the dynamic responses of lateral vibration of shafting due to propeller-induced forces and moments which are relatively large in recent ships. In this paper the forced lateral vibrations of marine shafting are dealt with, using a simplified model of propeller and shaft. Assuming several patterns of wake field, the forced lateral vibrations are solved and the trajectories of propeller center are plotted. Several qualitative characteristics are found on the lateral vibrations of marine shafting due to propeller-induced forces and moments.
