This report deals with a departure from the use of a master gage for periodic inspection of assembly tools. The dimensional metrology used to replace the master gage installation is analytical photogrammetry. An overview of photogrammetric methodology as applied to several tools in the F-16 production tool inventory is presented. The benefits of implementation are discussed and comparisons of old and new methods for several of the affected tools are shown graphically. The required capital investment is defined, and the investment rationale and return on investment is discussed. Analytical photogrammetric tool verification procedures have been established which satisfy production quality assurance criteria. General Dynamics Fort Worth Division conducted this program in the F-16 production environment to insure a pragmatic evaluation of the cost effectiveness and operational utility of the technology.
