The studies by the United States Navy and Air Force have established 8000 psi hydraulic systems as optimal from the weight and required space aspects. This paper deals with the design and development of several components of the 8000 psi CTFE (chlorotrifluoroethylene) fluid aircraft hydraulic system. The effects of high pressure on the dynamic performance of the components are discussed. Also presented, are the results of the metal and elastomer materials compatibility with the CTFE hydraulic fluid.
