Consumers will benefit when gas utilities possess analyzers that can measure odorant levels objectively and conveniently throughout the gas distribution system. To achieve this, gas utilities require odorant analyzers that perform in the field like other routine test instruments employed by gas distribution personnel. In this project, piezoelectric detectors were explored as a basis for an analyzer, or test instrument, which could also satisfy practical performance criteria such as low cost, portability, ruggedness and ease of use.
