The bellows orifice meter was developed to replace the Mercury meter which has been the industry standard for measuring differential pressure generated across an orifice restriction. Bellows orifice meters produced today are of two types: a liquid filled dual bellows system and the single (no fill) bellows system. Each of the two available types, although similar in theory, are different slightly in design, construction, and operation. We will deal in this paper with the single (no fill) bellows type meter. The single bellows meter body consists of three major parts: the low pressure housing, the center base plate and the lower (high side) pressure connection plate. The single bellows meter does not have a liquid fill, therefore, it uses the gas or process pressure to extend the bellows. The low pressure housing is a forged steel casting. The center base plate and lower pressure connection plate are manufactured from carbon steel plate. The meter is available in pressure ratings of 1500 psi, 3500 psi, and 6500 psi.
