The National Research Council of Canada is constructing a railway curved-track simulator (CTS) for simulating and testing the dynamical performance of full scale railway vehicles on straight and curved track with zero grade. The hardware includes roller motors and actuators to control roller yaw angles and apply inertial forces and moments. The motors and actuators will be controlled in real time by an online minicomputer. This short descriptive paper defines the minicomputer's function as an integral part of the CTS and the use of a synchronous computer model in CTS hardware and software design.
