The report gives information on major, recently completed, current, and planned synfuel end-use testing projects. It is intended to promote the flow of information between synfuel testing programs, thereby reducing the duplication of effort and enabling design and implementation of cost-effective and systematic approaches to the collection of appropriate environmental data in conjunction with on-going and planned performance testing projects. EPA plans to update this compendium to include results from current and future testing programs. Projects described in the compendium, include testing of shale-derived fuels, SRC-II middle distillates, EDS fuel oils, H-coal liquids, and methanol/indolene mixtures in such equipment as utility boilers, steam generators, diesel engines (laboratory and full scale), auto engines, and other combustors. Published reports on testing and discussions with test sponsors/contractors are the sources of data for the compendium. Agencies/organizations providing input include DOD, DOE, NASA, EPRI, private synfuel developers, and engine manufacturers.
