The transient build-up of longitudinal tyre forces is relevant with regard to driving dynamics and designing of brake systems. In a first step, it is established, that similar linear equations must be permissible for transient longitudinal and lateral forces. Using various test rigs, wheel and drum velocity and longitudinal force where measured as time functions and processed by spectral analysis methods. The results describe the frequency response between wheel velocity and longitudinal force, differential velocity in the tyre contact surface and longitudinal force, slip and longitudinal force and between resultant slippage and resulting tangential tyre force. From these findings it can be assumed, that there is a general law for building up tyre controlling forces.
