To assess tire rolling resistance in actual operating conditions a calculation method was developed which is based on the solution of the energy equation in transient conditions. The computation requires the knowledge of five typical tire coefficients which can be obtained experimentally through outdoor and indoor tests. The procedure has been developed with outdoor tests with the aid of purposly built test trolley. The results obtained demonstrate that tire rolling resistance coefficient in actual operating conditions is very often higher than the values commonly given by the manufacturers.
