Sailing a ship on the ocean is much influenced by such a natural phenomenon as weather or sea condition, compared with running a train of driving a car on land or piloting an airplane, and therefore it much owes to the judgements by slip's officers. To save such labor of the ship's officers at sea, an integrated automatic navigation system 'TRANSOLINE' has been developed. The TRANSOLINE utilizes several position fixing devices and a computer, and has such function as to control an auto pilot system not to deviate a ship from a set route. The TRANSOLINE was evaluated at many actual voyages and it has been proved that it automatically controls a ship so as to track on a set route with very high accuracy, and found that it contributes greatly for shortening a sailing distance, which makes it possible to reduce a fuel oil consumption.
