The welding of the new 'S' Truck at GMC Truck and Coach is being performed by industrial robots. The justification for utilizing robots will be presented in this paper along with a discussion of the types of welding operations which they perform. Emphasis will be placed on interfacing the robots with other peripheral equipment and how this can be managed through the use of a central computer. Training of operating and maintenance personnel will be discussed and shown how this function and off-line programming can be accomplished through the use of a combined robot training and development center.
