A high performance servoactuator has been designed and tested for use in flight simulator motion systems. The frequency response and smoothness of the resulting system are significantly improved over existing systems. The servoactuator has hydrostatic piston and sleeve bearings, internal cushioning and uses an ultrasonic position transducer mounted inside the piston. Force feedback is provided both by an instrumented rod end pin and by pressure transducers. The servovalve has been optimized for the application and a drive circuit has been developed which blends position and acceleration commands to provide excellent controllability. The paper reviews the design requirements, rationale and results are presented indicating response which is flat to 10 Hz with a 18000 lb. payload. (Peters)
