Turbine engine control system technology is now in a period of rapid transition. Within the next few years, digital computer-based engine controls will see operational use in both military and commercial applications. The Air Force Wright Aeronautical Laboratories' (AFWAL) Aero Propulsion Laboratory is sponsoring research and development programs to take full advantage of potential benefits and to fully address potential problem areas associated with this transition for military aircraft. On-going and planned AFWAL activities in the areas of multivariable control logic, control system integration, and reliability/flight safety are reviewed. (Wassmann)
