Hydraulic servomechanisms are used extensively in flight simulators to provide force and motion cues. This paper reviews the performance requirements and design techniques used in several applications. The use of hydrostatic bearings to reduce friction, the selection criteria for servo-valves and circuit design techniques are described. Systems described include load units to provide artificial feel on flight controls, motion systems and g-seat motion cueing devices. (Wassmann)
