A parametric cycle analysis and a preliminary recuperator design study were conducted for a 500-hp intermediate rated power (IRP) recuperative helicopter engine. The U-tube recuperator with airflow inside the tubes and single cross flow gas path was found to be the lightest design in the 0.6-0.8 effectiveness range considered for the cycle analysis.
