Throughout 1979 and in 1980, a number of powerful energy-saving constraints began to make themselves felt. Those researchers and developers who deal with the problems of energy conservation in a wider context will be aware that progress, necessary as it is, can be attained only be optimizing a larger number of aspects. This paper discusses the way in which total energy consumption is affected by the use of alternative materials to reduce vehicle mass. (Peters)
