This report covers some aspects of the repair of adhesively bonded metal/metal and metal/honeycomb structures in an Airline environment. Under these conditions the available equipment is often less than that normally found in an aircraft factory. Two aspects of repair are considered: a) Metal/metal bonding under vacuum pressure using a 120 Cel curing film adhesive. The effects of bonding pressure from zero to 11 psi are reported together with the effects of repeated curing up to four times. b) Metal/honeycomb bonding with a 120 Cel curing film adhesive under a vacuum pressure of 10 psi. The effects of using a variety of fabrics between the adhesive film and honeycomb to allow extraction of air from the honeycomb cells to ensure a positive bonding pressure are reported. These show the importance of the correct choice of fabric both from the point of view of the fabric construction and the material from which the fabric is made. As a result the effects of percentage open space and yarn surface area were carefully studied and they are discussed in detail. (Kursetz)
