The large space structures proposed for applications such as the Satellite Power System program require fantastically large quantities of construction materials to be placed in orbit. This paper presents a preliminary investigation into obtaining multiple use of such materials to reduce the overall quantities required Specimens were made and mechanical property tests were performed on materials that can also conduct appreciable quantities of electrical current. This initial study showed that multifunction materials are not only feasible but can constitute a major contribution to the construction of the large space structures of the future. (Stoehr)
