The cold roll forming process has been utilized to manufacture automotive bumpers from high strength steels. Blending the physical properties of these steels with the design specifications of the bumpers required some departure from conventional roll forming technique. A successful technique is described, with emphasis on preferred design configurations and material formability parameters. (Wassmann)
