The paper discusses the possible correlation between the percentage of remarks made about structural corrosion with age of motor vehicle as found in the Swedish M.O.T. tests with increased likelihood of being injured in an older vehicle. The paper discusses this correlation and shows possible effects from one or more of the following: Acidic environment from the anodic electrocoating process. Lack of paint ingress into interweld joints. Residual hygroscopic salts from motor manufacturers treatment processes. Lack of penetration of industrial corrosion preventatives into interweld joints. Water spray ingress andbad design. (Peters)
