Graphite-aluminum and graphite-magnesium composite wires are currently being produced by liquid-metal infiltration. The precursor composite wires possess moduli values approaching 50 Msi. On the basis of specific property values the elastic modulus of the graphite-magnesium composite is the highest of any known metallic material. (Stoehr)
