Photochromic techniques were used in the qualitative inspection of sandwich radomes. Coating systems were evaluated using different procedures ot determine the most effective inspection technique. Tests were first performed on flat panels with built-in defects and then with full-scale doubly curved radomes. Strippable coatings and UV sensitive paints were utilized in conjunction with the application of heat to produce a color reversal. Production oriented methods for oneside heating and optimum color contrast were also investigated. The techniques were shown applicable to large foam sandwich structures. (Kursetz)
