Development of a high-temperature hydraulic fluid for advanced aerospace applications is described. Synthetic hydrocarbons and silahydrocarbons have been investigated as potential replacement high-temperature fluids for MIL-H-27601A, a highly refined paraffinic mineral-oil-based hydraulic fluid. The synthesis and development of silahydrocarbons and the development of synthetic hydrocarbons are described and their properties compared to MIL-H-27601A specification requirements and typical properties. Base fluid development is described. (Wassmann)
