A new portable, self-contained facility for investigating the cutting of ice with water jets has been built and tested. Following the initial trials some modifications and improvements to the facility have been recommended. From current and previous ice cutting tests it has been established that significant cuts in ice can be made over a wide range of conditions. At moderate pressures, that is less than 2.000 psig, and low traverse speeds, it has been possible to cut through ice 28 inches thick. Correlation with previous test results by regression analysis has been made. (Buehn)
