Electrolytic codeposition has been examined as a method of producing composite coating to control wear on aero engine and related parts. Of the various metal/ceramic combinations examined, a coating composed of a cobalt matrix with chromium carbide particle inclusions was found to meet the required specification. A method of producing this composite (Tribomet T104C) on a production scale has been developed. The major aspects connected with the application of plated coatings to aero engine parts have been investigated for this material combination and each requirement has been met. The structure of the coating and its method of deposition will be discussed as will its mode of wear. Examples will be given of typical parts that have been treated with Tribomet T104C together with the results obtained. (DePo)
