Modern Air Cushion Vehicles (ACV's) are dependent upon some form of flexible or articulating seal system to maintain the air cushion beneath the vehicle in an efficient manner. In this paper we discuss the development of various cushion sealing systems with particular reference to the bag and finger type. We shall introduce some simple analytical techniques that have been developed in recent years to assist the designer in selecting a seal system configuration in terms of performance and loading of the seal system elements and for scaling measured model scale air pressure data to representative full scale values. Examples of correlations between predicted and measured data will also be given. Recommendations for future development are discussed. (Kursetz)
