The technology has been demonstrated for providing lightning strike protection in the filament wound composite materials. The filament winding process for fabrication of the composite parts has proven to be a very effective and inexpensive method. A commercially available aluminum-coated glass fiber was used to provide the required conductivity. Two types of filament wound specimens, round and flat, were fabricated using S-glass fibers. The aluminized glass fibers were filament wound on the outer surface of the specimens.
