Efforts to develop more energy efficient automobiles by weight reduction has resulted in the evaluation of fiber-reinforced composite material for numerous primary structure components. The results of a number of these component studies are presented. Included are leaf and coil springs, driveshafts, and stabilizer bars. Also reported are results of studies on internal engine components based on composite materials.
