In the structural analysis of automotive forgings and castings using the solid finite element method, an interactive graphics method has been developed which enables users to easily build solid elements from nodes and line segments defining a mesh. The program algorithm is described in detail. An engine bulkhead and bearing cap have been modeled using this method and the results presented. (Peters)
