A hydromechanical/hydrostatic automotive energy management system adapted to provide an efficient, continuously variable optimal transmission ratio, an intermittent optimal engine operation in city traffic and regenerative braking, thereby, the system is able to reduce a car's fuel consumption by as much as one half while improving driveability.
