Configurations with forward mounted engines blowing under the wing have demonstrated the ability to statically lift over six times the installed thrust. This paper is a distillation of the most important results obtained at DTNSRDC over the past two years. Among these results are: (1) liftoff and forward acceleration over water of a dense vehicle with a thrust to weight ratio of only 0.17; (2) accurate prediction of static performance by a turbulent jet correction to the earlier potential flow theories; (3) roots of the fifth order system describing the longitudinal stability as functions of geometry; and (4) an accurate fit of tow tank data to force and moment equations having the usual aerodynamic coefficients plus coefficients multiplying the gross thrust. Measurements of transport efficiency over smooth water and waves and measurements of ride quality are also reported. (Kursetz)
