Several Stirling engine vehicle installations have been made in Sweden as part of the development of a Stirling engine for medium duty automotive application. The latest installation has been made as part of a US financed program for developing a passenger car power plant. Results from measurements show that the Stirling powered vehicles are equal or superior to conventional vehicles as far as mileage, emissions, noise, packageability and driveability are concerned. The potential for further improvements of these qualities as well as reductions of cost and complexity makes the Stirling engine a strong challenger to any future passenger car power plant.
