A method of estimating the rolling resistance of pneumatic tires at temperature equilibrium state based on conditions at the start of rolling is proposed. The method employs an idealized, uniform source, one-dimensional heat flow model for the tire carcass and tread. Using known hysteretic loss properties and heat transfer coefficients of tire material, numerical computations were made of five tires of different constructions and the results compared with these obtained from experimental sources.
