The Space Transportation System (STS) will offer the life scientist a routine 'hands-on' capability for experimentation at zero gravity not previously available. Many investigations taking advantage of that capability will utilize live biological specimens on board the STS. Housing for the specimens will be required and various common laboratory practices will be attempted under weightless conditions. This paper presents some general environmental and technical factors to be considered in designing specimen housing and other experiment support equipment. (Kursetz)
