Two flexible bearing nozzles for the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor have been fabricated and successfully static tested at Thiokol's Wasatch Division. The SRM nozzle has a 54 in. diameter throat with an exit diameter of 146 in., ranking it as one of the largest ever built for a solid rocket motor. It is designed for a 2 minute firing of the SRM with the flex bearing nozzle providing thrust vector control capability. Facilities, tooling, materials, processing, and inspection used for fabrication and assembly of metal components, ablative and insulative components, and the flexible bearing are discussed in this report.
